Good news is everywhere.
It can be found deep in your company’s history, in your employees’ stories, and – sometimes – in the most weird and wonderful of places!
One thing we can guarantee … you’ll have more news and stories in your business than you could ever realise. You may just not have known it. And that’s OK!
Sometimes, businesses are simply too close to their own day-to-day operations to recognise what journalists, customers, stakeholders, potential employees and the general public find interesting.
What can seem ordinary to a business (something they may have done for years and years) may actually fascinate the average reader.
That’s where we can help!

What actually makes a story?
When people think about news, they often picture major corporate announcements or groundbreaking innovations. So, it’s easy for a business to think “well, those only happen once in a blue moon, so we’ll just keep quiet and wait until one of those things pops up.”
While those things certainly attract attention, they represent only a small proportion of the stories that appear in the media every day.
Journalists look for a story worth telling, and that their own readers will be interested in. Timing is key. A story that is newsworthy today, may no longer be next week.
Think about impact, relevance, human interest, significance and timing. A story doesn’t need all of these elements, but it usually needs at least one or two.
The stories hiding in plain sight
Many stories are hiding in plain sight. A few examples include a member of staff completing a fundraising challenge, a charity partnership, new apprenticeship schemes or apprentices progressing into managing roles, a company expanding or having an office makeover - just to name a few.
None of these may feel extraordinary when you’re living them every day. But viewed through the right lens, they become compelling stories that help people understand who you are, what you do and what you stand for.
Some of the most successful PR campaigns aren't built around major announcements, but around consistently identifying and sharing these moments.

Don't overlook your own history
Many organisations overlook their own heritage, however company anniversaries, milestones, and historical achievements can provide excellent opportunities for storytelling.
We’ve worked with businesses whose archives contain decades of fascinating stories about innovation, resilience and growth. Sometimes, a conversation with a long-serving employee can uncover more compelling content than a boardroom strategy session.
Your history demonstrates credibility. It shows how far you’ve come and helps audiences understand where you’re heading.
Thought leadership is news too
Not every story has to be about something that happened. Sometimes the story is your expertise.
Business leaders often underestimate the value of their knowledge because it feels routine to them. But the challenges you’re solving every day may be interesting to your customers, industry peers or the wider public.
Sharing informed views on industry developments, market trends and emerging challenges helps position your organisation as a trusted authority. Good thought leadership isn’t self-promotion. It provides a useful insight that helps people understand a topic better.
Why storytelling matters
People are exposed to thousands of marketing messages every day, and stories cut through because they create an emotional connection.
Successful PR isn't about waiting for something extraordinary to happen. It's about finding PR stories in the everyday moments that demonstrate who you are, what you do and why it matters.
A well-told story can build trust, strengthen reputation, attract talent, support sales activity and reinforce relationships with customers and the wider public.
And the chances are, your next great story is already happening. You just haven't spotted it yet.
